{"id":1181,"date":"2026-01-17T08:00:44","date_gmt":"2026-01-17T08:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/99chinatravel.com\/?p=1181"},"modified":"2026-01-17T08:00:44","modified_gmt":"2026-01-17T08:00:44","slug":"carney-welcomes-new-era-of-canada-china-relations-following-historic-agreement-with-xi-jinping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/99chinatravel.com\/?p=1181","title":{"rendered":"Carney welcomes \u201cnew era\u201d of Canada-China relations following \u201chistoric agreement\u201d with Xi Jinping"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney detailed the \u201chistoric agreement\u201d made with Chinese President Xi Jinping Friday on canola, tariffs, EVs and more during his two-day visit to Beijing.<\/p>\n<p>The deal established gains for both nations within \u201cfive key areas\u201d: clean energy, trade, multilateralism, public safety, and cultural ties.<\/p>\n<p>Most notably, Carney agreed to reduce tariffs on a portion of Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) in exchange for China \u2013 at least temporarily \u2013 dropping levies on canola products as early as March.<\/p>\n<p>This \u201cnew era\u201d marks progress in a strained relationship between Canada and China, after the multi-year trade dispute that began when the previous Liberal government, led by Justin Trudeau, levied EV tariffs to protect Canada\u2019s auto sector.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s response?
