Trading the silent mountains of the West for the neon-soaked chaos of China’s “Cyberpunk” capital was a shock to the system we weren’t entirely prepared for. Navigating China during the Spring Festival isn’t just a logistical challenge—it’s an invitation into the world’s biggest family reunion.

From the pandas of Chengdu and the adrenaline of the city to a childhood reunion 17 years in the making, it has been an intense week. We dove into the valley clouds and the massive crowds, hiked a sacred mountain, and drove to Chongqing before finally deciding it was time to escape the chaos and find a real plan for the New Year.
