May Day holiday: China set to see record travel as domestic trips gain popularity
China is expected to see record travel during the upcoming May Day holiday, with more than 1.5 billion trips forecast over the five-day break. Much of that demand is being driven domestically, with higher fuel costs making overseas trips more expensive and prompting travellers to stay closer to home. That shift is supporting Beijing’s push to boost consumption, amid an economic slowdown and stagnant wage growth. Tan Yew Guan reports.
