Today I’m going First Class on China’s most luxurious sleeper train, the brand new Silk Road Express! Over the next three days, we’ll travel from Xining to Dunhuang, climbing to over 9,000 feet above sea level before crossing the Gobi Desert. I’m staying in the train’s most opulent accommodation: the Grand Suite. This massive 22m² room comes complete with a private living area, a super king bed, and a designer bathroom with freestanding bath!

I’ll be trying Silk Road inspired fine dining, exploring every unique carriage onboard (including the private Karaoke room and observation car), and seeing whether this new luxury sleeper train deserves to be ranked among the world’s greatest rail experiences! As usual, this trip is entirely self funded so I can provide a completely unbiased and honest review.
